Jannabi Fantastic Old-Fashioned Returns Concert Review

with the fancy name <Fantastic Old-Fashioned Returns> Group Sound Jannabi Showed the most magnificent concert in 2019!!
Jannabi's 2019 solo concert was held over the duration of two days 8/31, 9/1 in the Olympic Hall of Olympic Park. I watched the first day of the concert and the concert title <Fantastic Old-Fashioned Returns> is the most suitable title. With the help of the large scale and props it was like a 180 minutes long midsummer night dream.

<Fantastic Old-Fashioned Returns> is named after Jannabi's 2017 year end concert “Fantastic Old-Fashioned”. The vocalist Choi Junghoon said that out of all their countless concerts, he thinks of 2017 Fantastic Old-Fashioned as the most legendary,  the writer of this review didn't attend that concert but this concert is most certainly a 100 times upgrade of that concert.

This concert has garnered great attention from the concert/music industry even before the tickets went on sale. Olympic Hall, on a whole different scale from their previous gigs, and on top of it all a 2 day concert! Even K-Pop artists can face a hard time filling up a concert of such large scale. Amidst the interest, the tickets were sold out as soon as they went on sale, they even had to add additional tickets later. It was a moment that proved that Jannabi are now beyond indie and are proving themselves as a mainstream band. Honestly speaking, it won't be an exaggeration to say that as bands they are now on top of the Korean concert/music scene at the moment.

before the concert starts

Jannabi members entering the stage, undeniable Jannabi circus appearance.
The concert started at 5PM as scheduled. They started with a very upbeat song Surprise! from the 1st album Monkey Hotel, it seemed it was chosen to kind of tell the audience to enjoy the fun circus to their heart's content. As mentioned earlier, the stage's scale and the props were unnbelievable. They really prepared a lot. The band also slightly arranged the songs for this concert to give them a new feel. Choi Junghoon personally played the piano while performing the hit song "Summer", and  he even cried while performing "For Lovers Who Hesitate". The repertories that were  in perfect harmony with fans made it a very resonant concert. For the finale they sang  the last song on the 2nd album "Legend", "Dreams, Books, Power and Walls" with a children choir and showed a high quality production that can only be seen in their concerts, it was a moment that showed their showmanship.

Before this concert Jannabi said they would showcase their music to the world. They were 200% successful in accomplishing that. Their fantastic stage was just like watching a fairytale for adults, and the members looked like 4 Peter Pans on stage, that played music that would make you forget about the sorrows of the world, in Neverland.  The endless series of repertories over the course of 180 minutes was a magical world.

Regarding the concert, Choi Junghoon said “it was a moment that I dreamt of and longed for when I first started music” . An indie band selling out a 2 day Olympic Hall concert, a large concert hall within Olympic Park! Once again they wrote history. It's very impressive watching them go from busking and small club gigs to music festivals main artists, and now to selling 10,000 tickets in a blink of an eye, it's very touching watching them grow into an arena-concert level band. Thinking about the old days with them makes me smile and watching them rise again after painful and difficult times made it clear how strong their will and efforts are. Jannabi, their hot summer nights start now.  Their upcoming music and performances will certainly remain in the Korean music industry as a guaranteed spot on the charts, and they will serve as role models to their Band colleagues.

Jannabi - 슬픔이여안녕 (ASTEARSGOBY) lyrics

[Verse 1] I’ve forgotten everything now Or did I lose it all? I came searching for answers But I end up leaving questions behind It was a turning point When I get back home and lay down What kind of expression should I make Waving sorrow’s hands Might be coming or going Or standing somewhere [Chorus] Listen, young pal If you look for the things you lost where you lost them  Sometimes it shines a light that knows grief  [Verse 2] I dislike myself But I also like me who’s like that There was a time when I was repulsed by the frequently glimmering happy phrases  [Chorus] Listen, young pal If you look for the things you lost where you lost them  Sometimes it shines a light that knows grief  [Bridge] Look at me, I’m waving my hands Goodbye sadness, ooh, ooh [Refrain] Wind blows, and rain pours And flowers of a season bloomed, bye bye The clouds are white and the sky is blue I grew up at a certain time, bye bye

clarification of Jannabi's Choi Junghoon's rumors

1. SBS News reporting on a famous band vocalists dad who received the help of Kim Hak Eui and embezzled money. They mentioned that his two sons were involved in the business and even put a picture of their studio. Junghoon's clarification: "Hello, it's Jannabi's Choi Junghoon. I write this with such a heavy heart.  First of all, regarding Yoo Younghyun's school violence, I truly believe that we were all responsible for it.  Thinking only about music and jumping on this long journey, I didn't have time to look back at the past. As the leader of the band I apologize again on behalf of Jannabi. And aside from that, I'd like to clarify some things and share the truth about the things that are being published about me. I think it is my duty to tell the truth to my fans who,  because of the rumors,  are now feeling terrified and uncomfortable for  liking my music and making memories with them. . During my childhood my father's business di

Jannabi's Choi Junghoon interview with Elle

  Q. I heard that your mother doesn't like your long hair which you have now become famous for. She even sent in a complaint to one of your radio appearances asking 'Why on earth do you grow it'. A. I didn't grow it because I wanted to. I didn't have time to cut it before some gig so I went on stage as is and the fans really liked it. So I kept growing it since. Q. There's the story with your mom, and looking at other stories here and there, I burst out laughing so many times. It seems like your life is a sitcom without intending it. A. I'm a bit like that. Life is like a sitcom, just like the saying "Life is a tragedy when seen in close-up but a comedy in long-shot." There are obviously things you really hate and you could get stressed but in the long run, it's all comedy. You can only laugh.         Q. Jannabi's 3rd album 'The Land of Fantasy' has finally come out. How do you usually feel after putting out an album? A. This time i
